: (CNS) — SANTA ANA, Calif. According to data released Tuesday by the Orange County Health Care Agency, COVID-19 hospitalizations in Orange County showed a downward trend in July, as fatalities continued to rise.

Last Wednesday, there were 350 COVID-19 patients in the hospital, with 48 in intensive care. There were 295 hospitalized as of Monday, with 49 in intensive care.

Officials are unsure how many of the hospitalized patients were admitted specifically for COVID-19 or tested positive while being treated for another illness.

However, from July 1 to 10, 15 patients were admitted directly for COVID-19 who were either partially or completely unvaccinated. Another five were vaccinated without a booster, while four others received shots and a booster.

According to the county, 71.5 percent of patients are either partially or completely unvaccinated. The percentage of patients in intensive care is 72.6 percent.

The county's ICU beds are only 29 percent full. When that figure falls below 20%, officials become concerned.

The county's testing positivity rate fell from 19.6 percent a week ago to 18.4 percent, and in the health equity quartile, which measures the communities hardest hit by the pandemic, it fell from 22.4 percent to 20.9 percent.

The county's daily case rate per 100,000 people fell from 38.7 to 35.9 on a seven-day average with a seven-day lag, and from 35.6 to 34 on an adjusted rate with a seven-day lag.

Since Friday, the county has recorded 3,708 new infections, bringing the total number of cases to 640,721. Since Friday, 19 people have died, bringing the total death toll to 7,214.

All but one of the fatalities reported since Friday occurred in July, bringing the total for the month to 55. The death toll in June is 44.

On Tuesdays and Fridays, the OCHCA provides regular COVID updates.

According to the most recent data available, the case rate per 100,000 people for fully vaccinated residents who received a vaccine booster decreased from 44.2 on July 17 to 32.7 on July 24. The case rate decreased from 27 to 19.8 for residents who were fully vaccinated with no booster, and from 44.8 to 34.4 for residents who were not fully vaccinated.

According to data released Tuesday, the number of vaccinations administered in Orange County increased from 2,334,335 to 2,337,024. The county has also recorded 206,349 residents who received one of two Pfizer or Moderna vaccine shots.

The number of booster shots increased from 1,356,048 to 1,361,118.

The number of fully vaccinated residents in the most recently authorized age group of 4 and younger increased from 301 to 943 versus 186,290 unvaccinated.

Only about 35% of children aged 5 to 11 years old are immunized.

In the 12-17 age group, 68 percent are vaccinated, while 32 percent are unvaccinated.
